Going for an interview?
Want to get hired??
Must be excited…
Here are a few things you must keep in mind before going for an interview:
First off, Stop getting excited with a feeling like you’re going for your exam. Rather consider the interview to be a formal discussion. The difference between both is similar to the difference between talking to your Dad versus talking to your friend's Dad.
You tend to talk to your Dad very casually with lenience cos that is someone who you talk to every now and then and have a relationship with. But while talking to your friend’s Dad, you maintain some space and talk with utmost care and respect while using your words and body language. If you understood the exact difference between these two, then you are all set to represent yourself in the interview.
Below are some points to be noted and prepared for:
Before you reach the venue -
1. Resume Preparation –
Make sure you know very well the content of your own resume.

The most important things that an interviewer looks for in a resume are:
Skills
Stability
Academics
Obviously, a resume must contain other things such as past experience, academic scoring, personal details, and other info for sure but the above 3 things play a vital role in introducing you to the interviewer. Most of the interviewers won’t even look at other things mentioned in the resume. Hence, you must make sure you have elaborated your skills well enough and have highlighted your skills and academics to make it easier for the interviewer to understand if you are the one he is looking for.
2. Research the company –

You must get an idea of where you’re going. You should know who you’re going to work with. A thorough research about the company would help you make a good impression on the interviewer. This will help you answer almost 50 % of questions the interviewer may ask. You should have an idea of what the company’s Services are, how it was established, who the founder is, a little bit about the company’s performance and happenings, and the names of a few of their clients.
3. JD Preparation –
You must have the knowledge of your roles and responsibilities of the Position you have applied for. You must know what your tasks would be in the company if you get hired.
4. Essentials to be carried along –
A well-built hard copy of your Resume, Notepad & Pen, Water bottle, Hand-kerchief, and your Identification Card. You must wear Business formals, dressed neat and clean, and make sure you neither smell bad with sweat nor too fragrant.
At the interview –
5. Building Rapport –
As we say the first impression is the last impression, you must make your first attempt impressive and memorable. Shake your hand with a smile as soon as you enter in before you are offered to take a seat.
6. Eye Contact & Body language –
Your eye contact with the interviewer reveals how confident you are. Looking into the eye means you are confident of your own skills and talent and are ready to answer any questions. Looking here and there will prove that you aren’t prepared and will make you look like a coward. When it comes to body language, you must not look like you are a robot sitting in front of him, you must make use of your hands while talking in order to add meaning to what you are speaking. Also, your voice must have proper intonations and not make it sound like a robotic speech.
After the interview –
Do a follow-up to get feedback from either the interviewer or the Hiring manager via email or possibly over a phone call. If the feedback is positive, you’re in. If negative, ask for the areas of improvement to prepare, learn and make it better for the next interviewer.
If you have prepared with all that is mentioned above, you are not far away from success and your dream job will be on your way.
